Jo Garrett is a versatile screenwriter, director, and storyboard artist who brings a rich tapestry of experiences to storytelling. Raised in a military family, she traveled extensively, immersed in different cultures and environments throughout her childhood. Today, as an adoptive parent in a multicultural household, Jo is deeply passionate about inclusivity in film, fueling her commitment to authenticity in her work. Specializing in female-driven stories across multiple genres, Jo enjoys exploring complex family dynamics, fish-out-of-water themes, and the quest for connection and belonging. Her fictional worlds are often set in the exciting real-world locations she visited throughout her life.
In her youth, Jo worked as an illustrator while touring as a singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Through songwriting, she honed skills in visual storytelling, theme, tone, structure, and rhythm. Transitioning seamlessly into screenwriting, Jo combines these skills with pre-visualization techniques from her art background to craft compelling narratives with captivating twists.
As a multidisciplinary artist, Jo’s talents extend across various mediums. She was awarded a Literary Grant in 2023 for her screenplay, “Low Tide”. Her notable illustration projects include storyboards for the special edition DVD releases of “Slither,” “Black Snake Moan,” “The Invasion,” and Rob Zombie’s “Halloween,” as well as concept art for U2’s “Origin of the Species” music video. Her jewelry designs have been featured in “The Vampire Diaries,” “Charmed,” “Bloodline,” Hallmark’s “A Christmas Melody,” MTV Movie Award swag bags, and various magazines and newspapers. In each artistic endeavor, Jo infuses her unique blend of creativity, heart and authenticity.
